SLIME STUDIOS
Slime Studios is a creative collective founded by Preshaylin Bema. The sole purpose of this collective is to create art through many forms which include fashion, music, art and soon to be film.
The members include Presh (Founder/Creative Director), Sheylyn (Graphic/Fashion Designer), Cali (Musical Artist), Thuli (Creative Curator), Kenzo (Graphic/Fashion Designer), Jae (Musical Artist), Woohyuk (Fashion Designer), Nathaniel (Fashion Designer), Ivy (Musical Artist) & Sutra (Producer) with their go-to photographers being Xavierrebellion & 3amVisuals.
The collective originally started as a brand, this after Presh had his friend Sawcewave design a logo. He then realized that he always wanted to start a creative base with his friends as they always had a passion for art whether be it fashion or music. Presh had started similar things in the past but didn't succeed which proved a blessing in disguise. The Slime Studios crew had known each other either from schooling together or staying really close to each other. Their main inspirations were the Teriyaki boys, Treehouse Rekords and Asap Rocky with AWGE. The idea had always been there but it took time and hard work to get where they are right now and they believe that it's only the beginning. Their first major recognition came when they dropped the song H20 by Cali. "That track changed sh** for us" says Presh. They started catching the eyes of artists like J Molley, Babyfacedean as they started wearing their merchandise.
Slime Studios finds its unity and drive through their differences coming together. "Different backgrounds & different paths all brought together for the love of the art forms that we produce". Although being a collective and having various opinions on things may cause a lot of conflict, the collective feels that it makes them stronger and adaptable to making art that can touch every soul in South Africa regardless of religion, culture or gender. "When we started off we were all kind of all over the place". The crew went from 15 to 9 members. Now every member dedicates their passion and energy into one vision, the family, hence it's easy to stay united.
The collective has a lot of stuff planned for 2019. They're planning on dropping a full length collection really which will mostly be cut and sew so wait on that. They also releasing new visuals and music. They might also host an event pop-up in the coming months. "No one knows what's going to happen in the future but we definitely want to collaborate with some international brands and basically go global with this movement we pushing and have great times with the crew" says Presh.
Their advice to other collectives and young artists out there is to stay original, keep working at your craft, not let haters bring you down. "Trust me at first it seems hard but believe me it gets better just keep putting yourself out there". They believe that one should let their inspiration come from your heart, which will lead them to bigger things as long as you believe and support your destiny. They also believe in The Law Of Attraction, meaning that you speak whatever you say into existence. You will get discouraged at times but remember there's always a brighter side at the end of the tunnel. It's just a matter of how much of work you put in. "To all the dudes struggling to keep up in school this ones for you. To the ones that are afraid to dream this ones for you". As Slime Studios continue on their journey of inspiring and crafting their art and contributing to the youth, we await to see their next moves and future endeavors.
